About Arāmāyā

A small beginning in a big conversation

Arāmāyā — Learn Gemara Aramaic teaches Jewish Babylonian Talmudic Aramaic to learners who can already read Hebrew letters. Our 12-lesson starter course samples Bava Kamma, chapter 1 — ארבעה אבות נזיקין, daf 2a, in order Nezikin. Three additional sample lessons cover Berakhot 2a:6–8. Neither sample covers a whole chapter or offers practical halachic instruction.

Honest language boundaries

The opening Mishnah is mainly Hebrew. The Gemara is an Aramaic discussion, but includes Hebrew quotations and shared expressions. The lessons separate these. Hebrew hints are teaching paraphrases, not quotations. English meanings are context-specific. The phrase נפקא מינה on 2a:8 concerns the Shabbat comparison, not a final damages ruling.

Parent / teacher review advised: check the vocabulary, context and reading approach with your learner’s teacher before classroom use.
